SERBIA 16 HUNGARY 17 in overtime (FT: 14-14) Quarters: 5-3, 3-4, 4-4, 2-3, 0-2, 2-1 Both teams fought hard for goals and didn¹t disappoint the sell-out crowd. Serbian supporters in particular, made a huge noise as the game went to full time with no winner and it went to extra where Hungary triumphed 17-16 in a spectacular match where many players never saw the end of the game. Saponic opened for Serbia but Varga, one of the standout players of the tournament, scored on extra and from the top for a 2-1 Hungarian lead. Then the Serbian machine cranked into action with Basic and Saponic drawing and taking their team to the lead. Petkovic from close in and Mitrovic from seven metres had the game firmly in Serbia¹s grasp at 5-2 but Marnitz swept the ball in from two metres to close the quarter at 0:17. Randic opened the second for Serbia from eight metres and Mitrovic claimed a second from the top on right-hand catch. Centre forward Harai scored for 7-4. Rackov replied with a deft right-hand shot from the deep left-hand-catch position for 8-4 at 5:37. Varga scored from two metres after a rebound. Several minutes later Hungary had another timeout on extra and Harai converted for 8-6. He scored another on extra less than two minutes later. In the dying seconds, Lazar was excluded and Salamon gave up a penalty shot, gifting Serbia a tremendous opportunity. Basic sent the shot low and goalkeeper Bisztritsanyi deflected in over the backline, much to Basic¹s disgust. Hungarian coach Keszthelyi gained a yellow card. The third period started with Serbian coach Vasilovski gaining a yellow card. Ivosevic converted extra from the top for 9-7 and Voros replied with a towering grab on the far post and dragging it down into goal for 9-8 at 5:16. Mitrovic collected his third goal on extra on the next attack for a two-goal margin. Serbia went to a timeout and had the shot blocked and rebounded. Tomasevic gathered and tried to shoot but gained a penalty instead on Borsos for his third. Mitrovic converted for his fourth and a three-goal lead. The Hungarian assistant coach gained a red card. Hungary was stung by the penalty and Harai and then Salamon narrowed the gap. Sziklai gained his third foul and a second Hungarian assistant was marched from the bench. Tomasevic gained the extra-man goal for 12-10. Varga converted on extra from right-hand catch at 0:50 for 12-11. Tensions were high for the final quarter and when Petkovic was excluded Varga wasted no time with his fifth goal from the top for 12-12, the first draw since 2-2. Harai regained the lead for Hungary with his fifth goal from deep left at 4:13. Hungary took a timeout at 2:06 and Varga took the shot but no goal. Serbia went to a timeout and Saponic equalised at 1:07. Voros scored a five-metre shot but appeared to move a metre forward before shooting. Serbian coach Vasilovski protested and gained a red card. He failed to leave the pool deck for some time. Mitrovic was red-carded from the bench for trying to take the coach back to the bench and the firepower was gone. Rackov scored at 0:21 on extra after Harai went for his third major. Another big hitter left the game as it was locked at 14-14. Varga was excluded but no other goal came and it was off to extra time. Hungary won the ball in the first period of extra and Varga drew a penalty foul on Tomasevic, who had his third. Varga made no mistake with the shot for his sixth goal and a 15-14 lead. On the last attack of the period, Voros drive through the middle and gladly accepted the ball, shaped and scored from two metres unguarded. It was a telling blow. Marnitz was excluded just before the buzzer. Serbia won the swim and took a timeout. Randic shot but it was blocked. The ball found its way to Voros in the hole, who scored his fourth for 17-14 to Hungary. Markovic replied at 2:06 from the top and Rackov drew the foul and lobbed from six metres for 17-16 at 0:57. Serbia was still in the game. Hungary called timeout with 11 seconds on possession. The goal was disallowed for baulking. Serbia gained an exclusion but lost the ball in the final seconds, giving Hungary the victory.
