Golden Hungary
Italy vs. Hungary 6:9
Quarters: 0-1, 2-2, 2-3, 1-3
It was Hungary who controlled the gold-medal final from start to finish. Itwas a heated exchange with Hungary losing four players and Italy three withthree going for misconduct. The opening quarter was a test of the goalkeepers and here it was Bisztritsanyi who came out on top with some spectacular saves. Washburn, at the other end, was also impressive. Only Varga could find a slot to post the ball. His long shot came off the right post at 5:08. The flurry of shots and saves had the sell-out crowd on the edge of their seats, if they had one. A goal came early in the second when Ninfa scored off the post on extra at 7:29. Varga lifted the crowd with his second goal and 28th for the tournament on a cross pass, which picked him out on the far post at two metres. A minute later Salamon was on the board for 3-1 with a bomb from the top. Both team utilised timeouts but neither succeeded with goals following the return. Figari blasted from the top at 1:17 to narrow the margin.Soon after, when Italy had two players excluded in succession, Figari intercepted the cross pass to deny Hungary another goal before halftime. There was plenty of action in the third with Varga scoring a third for 4-2 on extra. Figari responded, also on extra. Lazar drilled from the top for 5-3. Figari scored a disputed goal at 2:20 for 5-4 down. Italian was struck in the face and did not take part in the game. The referee chose to ignore the injury. Washburn, the goalkeeper, came to his aid and threw the ball from the pool. The referee turned the ball over and Hungary¹s Guidaldi earned a misconduct foul. Szabo converted for 6-4 just nMarnitz used his considerable bulk to turn and score at two metres for 7-4 at 6:40 in the final period of the championship. The same could be said of fellow man mountain Harai when heavily guarded at two metres. At 8-4 and with 4:24 remaining, the championship was heading to Hungary. Figari thought not and scored his fourth for 8-5. Harai gained a misconduct and then gave up a penalty foul. Figari shot but Bisztritsanyi blocked. Ninfa gained a misconduct foul and Salamon converted extra for 9-5.  With the  Hungarians celebrating the Italians didn¹t finish and Caliogna sent in a long shot with four seconds left to close the championship.
