Q&A - Tamas Kasas - Part 2.
ImageSecond part of the interview based on the questions from waterpolo fans...
“In the National Team, who do you have the best relation with?”
Tamas Kasas: I’m in good relation with everyone. Of course it’s a stronger relation with those players whom I play together from the start. But there couple of young players whom I’m getting very well on.

“Are you superstitious? Do you have any ceremony before the games? How’s your injury?”
Tamas Kasas: I’m not superstitious at all. I would rather say: I have a habit. Right before the game starts, I go under the water 5 times, kick myself to the surface and for the 5th time I make a big stuck on the water. I’m getting better. Thanks.
“Can you tell me the very start of your career? Since you learned how to swim.”
Tamas Kasas: Since I was 1 year old, I was swimming in the deep water with my Dad. I learned it quite soon, but I never really liked it. The first time they throw balls in the water, everything changed. After the training I stayed with my team- mates for one more hour just to shoot some. We loved it, it was our passion.
“Do you guys still have the “bratty attitude”, that offers some unpredictable solution in a given tough situation?”
Tamas Kasas: Opponents prepared well from us over the last 10 years, so it’s more and more difficult to make a surprise. It’s normal. We have to learn to play more disciplined. Although I think, it’s still us playing spectacular waterpolo, but it’s a shame they don’t give points for the beauty.

“Do you think it’s possible to have an team that’s really together for the Olympics – like it was before Athens? Do you have the affinity to train next generation after you finished your player career?”
Tamas Kasas: There won’t be any dissension… rather the opposite. The young ones for us are the blood-freshening. Young dynamism and we support them in that. We have a mutual aim. And it’s all about intelligence. Yes, I’d like to help the next-generation in some way.
“Are we able to adapt ourselves to the Serbian physicality and toughness?”
Tamas Kasas: We aren’t afraid of them, but we are totally aware that in the last couple of years they were better than us. This probably gives them confidence. The Olympics is different as they have a lot more to lose: they won everything except Olympic Gold. And if we play with them in Beijing, they will remember that. Perhaps remembering Athens. We make strong practice for the man-ups.
“Do you follow the results of Hungarian rising generation or the situation? What do you think of them?”
Tamas Kasas: Yes, I follow it and I’m interested in their results. Especially as we started the same way, and those success we achieved gave a huge motivation to continue. As I play abroad, I don’t really know most of the players, but this year’s results show, that there won’t be any problem in the future.
“How does your day look like?”
Tamas Kasas: Not too stirring here in Italy. I’ve never trained that much in my whole life like with my current trainer. 2 trainings daily on the whole week, one free afternoon. I woke up in the morning, have breakfast (usually 2 special bakery with Nutella and a cappuccino). Training, then lunch with some of my team-mates at our haunt. I go home, relax, read some, surfing Internet, watch some tv and training in the evening. That’s my usual day.
“What do you like or dislike in your professional sportman life?”
Tamas Kamas: I bear failures really bad right after the game, but I learnt how to manage them. Just like success. I’m not thinking too much about it, rather expect the next opportunity to prove.Success, love of people, the thought that we have so many fans, the feeling standing on the top of the podium, meaning it worth to work so much and hard… these are all positive.
The many abandonment, too frequent injuries, eviscerated body, the fact that professional sportman life is not really healthy nowadays… these are the negative parts. Water polo is great as it is, but the surrounding part should be better organized to sell it better on television. If water polo would be always like it is during the Unicum Cup in Margitsziget, that would be the right-down.
“What would you change on the rules?”
Tamas Kasas: Perhaps a shorter field would be better to avoid so many swimming. And more focus on the game itself…
“What would you change on the training of the next generation, its professional work?”
Tamas Kasas: In any terms I would like to use my name and popularity to attract more people for water polo and to improve the next generation.
