ImageIn any case we will already some changes at the year´s championships. Serbia and Montenegro won the two previous editions in Istanbul, Turkey (2003) and Sofia, Bulgaria (2005), but now Montenegro will have its own team for the time since the independence of the republic at the Adriatic Sea. So will we see another Serbian triumph and will Montenegro win the first medal in a major event? Two former medal winners are missing for the first time in history. Russia was knocked out in the qualification matches by newcomer Montenegro and Turkey. Germany was eliminated by Greece in a group with only one team to qualify for Malta. This time Greece, Spain and Italy will already each other in the Preliminary Round matches, so that one of the big Mediterranean waterpolo nations will miss the medal round in any case.
