A tough game, horrible referees work, 2 red cards, 3 exclusions with substitution and 4 exclusions with 3 personal faults. It all started as a classic Szeged-Eger game... both teams starting tough on each other. Eger had the better start: Csaba Kiss scored, then Szeged missed a penalty, but then Komlossy equalized the so-far result. After Biros’ man-up score, Feltham surprised Eger with a distant shot (1:3). But Szeged equalized within 3 minutes (by the way, Andras Gyongyosi – coach
Szeged – has already received a yellow card at the end of the 1st quarter). The 1st quarter show ended with Gabor Kis scoring from center (3-4).Just to add some burlesque feeling to the game: near the end of 1st quarter, one spectacular slided and felt into the pool behind the goal of Eger, therefore the game was on-hold for 1-2 minutes. 2nd quarter was weak in goals, but it wasn’t without any action and fight. At first the game was stopped, as the referee couldn’t clearly signed which player is excluded from Eger, therefore the wrong player swimmed to the cage. After the big-thinking project, Szeged couldn’t score from a 2 man-up situation. In the 12. minute, Zsolt Juhasz from Szeged was excluded with substitution from the bench because of yakking. Then Gyorgy Juhasz Head of Waterpolo Section at Szeged received a red-card. These intermezzos lighted up the players, and played extra tough (you could say „teeth-nail”... literally). 2 minutes before the end of the quarter, Weszeloszky equalized (4:4), than a nice Baksa saving, and Nyeki from Eger gathered his 3rd personal fault. 3rd quarter started with newbie Szeged player Mate Balatoni scoring double in man-ups (7:5). Referees exlcuded the players without counting: Hegedus gathered 3 personal faults, and Monostori was excluded with substitution. Both players and the coaches of the teams complained, and even spectators hardly noticed that Lehmann increased Szeged’s lead for 3 goals. 3 minutes before the end of the quarter, and after another doubtful situation and deliberation, Eger received penalty, executed by Biros. Scorer-machine (?) Tamas Varga launched and scored, but after that excitement started… and not in the pool. Not long before the end of the quarter, Eger received a man-up, Gerendas signaled time-out, but wasn’t noticed by referees, so he had to go to middle, to emphasize his signal. Seconds went on, and the man-up was missed. That was way too much for Gerendas who went to the refeeres’ table (together with Szecsi and T. Varga), but his intense complain was rewarded with a red-card (this means forbidding from 1 game… that will be Eger-Vasas, by the way). Adam Decker’s score meant some hope for Eger, but Balatoni secured his team’s winning position (10:6). Eger cosmeticized some on the results be Matajsz and Biros (10:8). SUMM: Unprofessional referees’ work, strong Szeged support (that wasn’t needed). Eger was only given the chance to play waterpolo for 2 quarters. Yeah, referees’ are right… it’s a shame if a team wants to play clean and pure waterpolo. But, hey… that’s shame of the referees!
