Final result stands: Poland keeps three precious points
The final result of yesterday night´s game between Great Britain and Poland at 2007 Men´s European “B” Championships in Manchester, Great Britain stands. A promising British protest could not be handed in right in time, so that the final result of 9-8 to Poland became a matter of fact. As observers claimed, Poland’s Robert Sekula failed to clear the pitch in the correct way, when he was excluded 87 seconds before the end. He left the pool at the score of 8-8 and did not enter the penalty box at all, but a penalty-shot for a wrong re-entry of the substitute player was not given. Furthermore the last time-out called by British head coach Eelco Uri 2.4 seconds before end proved as series of irritations, when the British players were not allowed to take their position after 45 seconds.

In case of a successful protest against the wrong re-entry the last 67 seconds, the playing time at the moment of the wrong re-entry, had to be replayed one day later, and the game would have started with a further man-up play for Britain in any case, possibly even with a penalty-shot.  From the British point of view a tie would have been enough to secure the third place here in Group B, which would have granted a place in the medal round and a berth at the Qualification Tournaments for the 2008 European Championships.
