With a convincing performance and without losing any points, Jug Dubrovnik won the FILA Cup international tournament. The tournament’s MVP was Tamas Varga, the best goalie Istvan Gergely, and the top scorer (with 17 goals) Boskovic. ORADEA-MLADOST ZAGREB 9:19 (3:2,1:5,2:5,3:7) Oradea won the 1st quarter, and even led by 4:2 against Mladost. But the Croatians shook themselves and scored 6 times in a row. After the big break Mladost went on, as it was clear that Oradea was tired for the evening game. JUG DUBROVNIK-VASAS 13:10 (2:3,3:2,3:1,5:4) Probably that was the first game of the tournament where it was clear: it’s not a preparation game. Last time the two teams met was the Euro League quarter final, where Vasas was only beaten with minimal difference. The game started leveled, moreover Vasas took the lead with 3 goals in the beginning of the 2nd quarter. With the lead of Boskovic, Jug equalized the results (5:5) by the end of the 2nd quarter. Then with Barnabas Steinmetz Vasas had the lead again, but then the 3 Croatian goals proven to be fatal for Vasas. In the final quarter with the 4 times scorer Boskovic and Obradovic in the main role, Jug obviously pull away from Vasas, despite the fact the Matyas scored 3. SZEGED-HONVED 7:8 (5:1,2:1,0:3,0:3) Miracle seemed to happen at the last game of the tournament. The hosts even lead with 7-1, but before the end of the 2nd quarter Gergely Kiss scored, then Honved decided to test: whether it’s possible to make up 5 goal lead of Szeged. The formula was simple: not to get any more goals, and use as many attacks possible to win the game. The plan worked: in the remaining 2 quarters Honved didn’t received any goals, and as they scored 3 in each quarter, it was enough for them to win the game, and get the 3rd place of the FILA Cup. FINAL RESULTS 1. Jug Dubrovnik (10 points) 59-49 2. Mladost Zagreb (8 points) 58-42 3. Honved (6 points) 50-39 4. Vasas (3 points) 50-59 5. Szeged (2 points) 40-47 6. Oradea (1 point) 39-60 |
