FILA CUP Szeged 2nd day
The Cup continued with the clash of the two top Hungarian teams. And Jug went on marching to victory.
Sorry, that I present the summary now... trying to catch up:)
VASAS-HONVED 8:15 (3:3, 2:4, 2:4, 1:4)

It was a “wake-up” morning game: both teams started very sleepy, and they were head-to-head in the 1st quarter. Then Honved started to go and leave Vasas behind – the reason was simple: when Vasas scored, Honved replied with at least 2 scores.

Honved and Vasas obviously practiced tactical elements, manoeuvring, fast changes and they tried to built in the newcomer players into the existing figures. Therefore, we couldn’t see any spectacular game, but you were presented with a fight where none of the players were in risk to get injured.

We could highlight yet again the new Captain of Honved, Gergely Kiss, who scored 3, and Marton Szivos acting in a totally new role: he managed/supervised his team mates effectively.

In Vasas “juniors” played the title role: Attila Kincses played confidently and full of power, and Denes Varga keeps up his great form.

SZEGED-MLADOST ZAGREB 5:11 (1:3, 2:4, 1:3, 1:1)

A very weak game, easy and well-deserved Croatian win. Zagreb was in superiority from the first minute till the last: the tasks were evenly divided, unlike with Szeged where 2 players (Tamas Varga, Laszlo Weszelovszky) shared 5 goals – Tamas Varga scored 3, Laszlo Weszelovszky 2.

Despite the fact that Szeged gained good players, they have to improve a lot to justify their high expectation: be part of the game called “who will be Hungarian Champion in this season?”.

JUG DUBROVNIK-ORADEA 11:8 (1:1, 3:3, 4:1, 3:3)

Although Jug played with the weakest team on paper, the game was of high standard and tight. From Oradea the 3 time scorer Baidoc and the goalie Ferenc Barath should be mentioned, while at Jug, the national team members and 3 time scorer Obradovic should be highlighted.

Til the end of the 2nd quarter the Roumanian Champion kept on well, but after it… like an order was shout for Jug, they simply secured their win in only one quarter.

MLADOST ZAGREB-HONVED 7:6 (3:1, 1:2, 1:1, 2:2)

A tight game until the end, but it was clear in the 1st quarter: the Croatians are more dynamic and more tough. Honved tried to get itself together, but it took a lot out of them that they had to strive after the results all the time. They still had the chance to turn the results in the 3rd and 4th quarter, but they couldn’t score the man-ups.

Scores of Vindisch, 2 nice goals from Tamas Molnar somehow compensated the fans, and Miklos Gor-Nagy scored his usual, showing that fitted in the team quite good.

SZEGED-JUG DUBROVNIK 10-11 (3:6,3:1,2:2,2:2)

Well, the host team had a strong resistance against Europe’s 2nd best club team. Despite the fact that it all started bad for Szeged: Jug even had the lead by 6:1 (!!). But they somehow rose, thanks to Tamas Varga who gave great performance both in defense and in attack.

At 8:8 the two teams were neck-to-neck, and in the final minute, Szeged had the attack. But the action ended on the goal-post, and in the counterattack Buslje secured the final result. The MVP’s of the game were Tamas Varga and Boskovic – both scoring 4 times.

ORADEA-VASAS 11:11 (4:4, 1:3, 3:1, 3:3)

It was a well-balanced game for quite some time and perhaps Vasas was too comfortable with their 2 goals lead by the end of the 2nd quarter. The players got tired and got too many non-acceptable referees’ judgments (their coach, Laszlo Foldi, went to the referees’ table to complain about it… with no real affect). After 8:8, Vasas could have still win, but there were serious problems with the team play and concentration throughout all the game.

From Oradea, Georgescu was the MVP with 4 goals, in Vasas Denes Varga and Adam Steinmetz scoring 3-3.
