European Youth Olympic Festival Belgrade
The teams from Hungary and Greece will play the opening match of the waterpolo tournament at the IX. European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) to be held 21-28 July in Belgrade, Serbia. The organisers of the multi-sport event have published the participants and the Preliminary Round draws of the eight-team tournament, which was also entered by France, Portugal, Germany, Slowakia, Slovenia and home team Germany.

EYOF is the largest event to be organised in Europe for young athletes and it is supported by the European National Olympic Committees and the International Olympic Committee. The competitions of the multi-sport event will include 11 sports with 2500 to 3000 participants in total, including men´s waterpolo as one of four team sports.

The waterpolo tournament is scheduled 23-27 July and will be held at Banjica Sports Centre, the home pool of EuroLeague quarter-finalist Partizan “Raiffeisen” Belgrade. Due to the restricted number of participants only eight nations have been invited in each team sport. In both Preliminary Round groups the top two will qualify for the semi-finals.

In the waterpolo competition the athletes are coming from the age groups 1991 and 1992 which will already be in charge at the 2008 European Championships after the recent change of age groups by the FINA. Some of the athletes already played a big LEN tournament last summer in Obrenovac, Serbia.
