Italy´s number three also “Systema Pompea” Leonessa Brescia as current leader of Group A also needs one more victory in the two remaining games to push all challengers away, but the Greek champion Ethnikos Piraeus as tomorrow night´s opponent is already fighting for the last chance for the quarter-finals – only an away victory keeps the last hope alive. The psychological background of both teams is different after the recent FINA World Championships: Brescia´s Croatian top players Igor Hinic and Samir Barac won the gold medal, and the Italian national team achieved at least an honourable fifth place. The third Wednesday night game between Italian champion and group leader Pro Recco and the current number two, the Hungarian vice-champion “Teva” Vasas-Plaket Budapest, seems to be less exciting, but the match in Camogli is facing some interest by the fact that the two remaining teams, Russia´s champion Shturm 2002 Chekhov and Hungary´s number three “Brendon Fenestherm” ZF Eger are both still in the pretty close race for the second place in Group B. All three teams still have one trump card in the two remaining games, so that “big points” against the favourite Recco could finally decide about the second quarter-final berth.
