The Philippine water polo team recently bested its competitors at the Australian Country Water Polo Championship, ABS-CBN News reported Monday. The Philippine team, which bagged the silver medal during the 2005 Southeast Asian Games, was the only foreign group that faced Australian state and military groups that competed in the tournament. The Filipinos beat teams from New South Wales, Western Australia and the Australian Defense Forces Team. They faced New South Wales in the finals on June 9. The Philippine team overwhelmed New South Wales, 16-9. The team paid Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco a courtesy call Monday to present their trophy. The team is composed of siblings Frazier, Ali and Norton Alamara, Monsuito Pelenio, Allan Payawal, Almax Laurel, Dale Evangelista, Sherwin Dela Paz, Ricardo Dilap Dilap, Teodoro Roy Cañete, Danny dela Torre and Tani Gomez. They were coached by Rey Galang and Edmond San Jose. |
