MANILA, June 15 (PNA) -- Some 703 Filipino athletes will compete in the 2007 Southeast Asian Games to be held in Thailand come December.

This is the new count recommended by the SEA Games Task force to the Philippine Olympic Committee Executive Board as of Wednesday.

The list includes 365 individual gold and silver medalists in the 2005 SEAG hosted by the City of Manila.

The latest sports to be included, according to Sports Radio, are the team sports of basketball, baseball, waterpolo, softball, indoor volleyball and football.

Once scrutinized and validated by the POC, the count will be submitted to Thai organizers before the July 8 deadline for submission of entries by numbers.

However, the number will likely be reduced, especially if some of the athletes would not be in tip-top condition weeks before before two-week competition.

The final composition of Team Philippines will be finalized by October 7, the last day for submission of entries by name.

The Philippines is the defending SEAG champion of the biennial regional meet but this year's host Thailand is expected to give the Filipinos a stiff challenge at all cost. (PNA)
